This is one of the most interesting pieces of tech + gender journalism I’ve seen on China in recent memory. Thank you. I’m floored by the level of detail, specificity, and unexpected examples of collective action.
What resilience, bravery and cleverness these women are showing, a masterclass in how to defeat the algorithm. more worrying is the amount of abuse going on, unreported. who can forget that awful video of the chained woman? and the group of women whom a random group of men attacked at a restuarant a while ago. thanks for this really insightful piece.
Great post on an important topic, thanks so much, looking forward to seeing much more! I've been doing a lot of reading about the Chinese version of the 'manosphere' (their versions of people like Andrew Tate et al) and it's very depressing. Chinese women who push back against these sorts of men and attitudes are very brave

This a fascinating window into the lives of Chinese women online, and so well reported.
Thank you Erika!

I guess you noticed? QWEN’s new image model makes beautiful Chinese typography. Western typography too!
